Bing Thom Architects, on behalf of Westbank Projects, has proposed a dramatic new 39-storey residential tower for the corner of Alberni and Bidwell Streets in the West End’s Davie Village neighbourhood. The weave design is the sculptural expression of an exoskeleton that creates generous, 2-storey balconies which also act as a sunshade, reducing cooling loads in the summer. Located in one of Vancouver’s most established and vibrant communities, 1684 Alberni is ideally situated just blocks away from local shops, services, the Georgia Street Corridor, and the Central Business District.

The Alberni Street side of the building will be fronted by a reflecting pool. A pedestrian bridge spans the pool to connect pedestrians with the building’s main entrance. On the laneway side of the building, there will be an outdoor dining area with a kitchen, barbecue, children’s play zone, a social area, and bench & patio seating for residents to use.
